Our first meeting for Spring 2015 was a wonderful get together with a great deal of chat, laughter, enjoying our morning tea and some occasional stitching. Many of us, who had been to the Canberra retreat (well me!) actually did more than the one stitch achieved at the retreat. Many of you sowed a great deal of interest in our 2016 Retreat, I will add details about it at the end of this, what is laughingly called a report of our day – some of it may be accurate! Don’t forget to click on the photos to enlarge them and get a proper look at some fabulous show and tell.

These lovely appliqued blocks are the work of Bar, who has made them in an on going machine applique class at The Sewing Connection at Pakenham. The class introduced Bar to many different methods and different stitches that can be used in machine applique. Such beautiful fabrics too.

Here are some beautiful stitcheries from Melody. They are to be surrounded by Dresden plates. It is a BOM from Rosalie Quinlan. And Bev has caught the hexagon bug! She was asked to take over the work of someone who has gone to that great Quilting Bee in the sky, and had never done them before – is anyone surprised that she is now addicted?

Marita has been perfecting her foundation piecing skills and I think that those that live in the Hundred acre wood and beyond would agree that she has succeeded admirably with Tigger, Pooh Bear (the photo is right way up, but you know Pooh – jumping around at the last minute!) and Christopher Robin himself. The patterns come for free on a site called Fandom or something like that.

Jan - just back from Malta and Italy and looking fabulous (that’s Simone in the background- she also looks fabulous), was after advice for her Christmas Tree Wall hanging. I think she went home with plenty of ideas. Love what she has done so far.
And Wyn showed us the type of pillow cases they are making for Quilts of Valour. The quilts will be resented in these beautiful pillow cases. The Aussie flag Fabric come from Spotlight, who were kind enough to donate $100 in vouchers. The pattern in on U-tube and it is called “Sausage Pillow Case” if you want to make some – more on a working bee later. Wyn has also been helping her cousin Helen Comport, teach sewing at Beacon hills College, and these bags are the result. Aren’t they cute? and so pretty.

Looks like Jo’s quilt block has decided to follow Pooh – but just take a look and you will see how beautiful it is. It is from a BOM by Irene Black and is just stunning – love the colours. Robyn is working on this cute Gail Pan stitchery. Don’t you just love Gail’s little birds?

Deidre had dug out this UFO from 1990 to finally finish, and isn’t it beautiful. Such great work during your recovery from surgery. So glad you are back and looking so well and happy – but your wedding on the 6th of September may have had something to do with that too xxx

Laurel his working on “Miss Matty’s Parlour” by Megan Carroll, in beautiful fussy cut fabric. I am not sure who the lovely sewing machine stitchery belongs to Louise? Laurel? Ramona? Marona? It is a lovey stitchery anyway.

Here is a simply spectacular little baby cardy for Sandra’s new grandson – don’t you love the colours? Congratulations on your newest grandchild Sandra!!! Now Kate brought a well loved tapestry – the one she brings when she just wants to sit and chat. She did however do two stitches and we look forward to seeing it completed some time in the next decade, or two.

Here, Fiona is working on the beautiful quilt “Green Tea and Beans”. It is looking so lovely and the colours are just fabulous. Dianne G was inspired, after seeing some of our UFO work, to bring out a 10 year old one of hers. It was made in the Karella Road shop in Frankston and is called “Pretty in Pink” – and it is!
