Wednesday 1st August 2018

As always, it was a great get together of our lovely group. We had the AGM you have to have for insurance purposes. The generous Dianne G agreed to be President (aka Grand Poobah) again, and the ever faithfull Marilyn W is continuing as secretary. We gave a huge vote of thanks to Marilyn L, who has ably served as treasurer for many years and was finally retiring. The gorgeous Ramona has agreed to take her place.
Then the fun and chatter and occasional stitching began.
For show and tell we had the following:

I am afraid these photos don't do justice to the intricate weaving Jeanette has produced during her intensive weaving course. The detail is absolutely amazing, and to say we were all stunned would be an understatement. As always Jeanette has achieved the very best results, and we look forward to seeing more of her work, as she continues to learn.

Last Christmas I (Helen E)  made up some covered canvases - decorated with fabric, doyleys etc for gifts, However, the fabric I used on this canvas was a bit tricky to match, so I put it aside. During a recent clean up of my quilting shed I came upon this neglected canvas, and put a doyley I had also found on top - onl to realise that they were a good match. This is the result, which I plan to use for myself.

I was stitching the first of my series of "Artisan Bovines". This is from Andy Warholstein (sunglasses requires). The next in the series is Moonet - be afraind - be very afraid!

From Dianne G we have this beautiful crochet? Don't you just love the colours. Very pretty!

Marily L has produced this beautiful crochet - it should be ready, all beautifully framed, in time for Christmas. Lovely!

Simone brought a (very) small sample of the pre cuts she purchased on a recent holiday to Bali. A substantial sum of her holiday spending was on fabric. If you are flying into Denpasar, note the followng details:

Ramona has been playing with Gail Pan's "See my sewing" bag. It is a great pattern for holding a project that you can take to a stitching day. I must finish mine.

Sandra also brought one of these nifty bags along too. Gail Pan made this one and gave it to Sandra.

For those interested in Jeanette's weaving, there is an open day at the Handweavers and Spinners Guild this Saturday - August25th - with demonstrations and hands-on experiences. For details:

Quilt maker and textile artist, Jenny Bowker has spent over 15 years in Arab and Islamic countries opening up the world of patchwork and quilting far beyond Australia to countries that do not have a tradition of quilt making.  Jenny, very deservedly, has also been named an Officer in the 2018 Order of Australia Queen’s Birthday honours list which recognises her work on Australia-Middle East cultural relations through the preservation of traditional arts.
