We had an absolutely wonderful day at Carrum Downs for our March meeting. Our guest speaker, the delightful Gail Pan, took us through her quilting journey and brought wonderful patterns to sell as well – she has also been chosen by Aurofil as one of only two (or one?) Jeanette Holkner was working on this beautifully embroidered cushion, and Hermione just finished (seconds before) this lovely bright table runner – started when she was a very sick bunny, to cheer herself up.
I was very much mooved by this gift of a very pretty cow gift from lovely Maggy – she is now part of my extensive cow herd (kept in a secret location at home after the cownappings some years ago). And, at last I have started a year quilt – here are a few of my QAYG hexagon blocks, being put together in (hopefully) date order.
This magnificent butterfly quilt is the result of a world wide swap Jo Botherway took part in last year. Her request was for butterflies from whichever region the participants lived in. The blue butterfly is an Aussie one, added by Jo later, What a sticking quilt!
Bar is finally putting her many QAYG hexagons together – a lovely effect so far. And this magnificent elephant was made by Sally when she was ONLY 10 years old and confined to bed for two weeks. The embroidery is superlative – what an achievement for a 1o year old!
Wyn is in the process of finishing her hand quilting on this lovely table cloth following a class at Bay Quilters with Lessa Siegel – see the magic effect of quilting circles on square blocks. Meanwhile Marilyn was knitting one of those curly whirly scarves – and you can see her blocks for the same quilt that Wyn was working on.
Jennifer was approached to finish this vintage quilt, started by a friend’s Nanna – looking closely you can see the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s fabrics. Jennifer put out a call for any older fabrics that we may have – please? Bronwyn has been knitting these beannies to sell – and in case you are wondering, the are from the cult show “Firefly” – rather fetching don’t you think?
Pam made this quilt in a westalee ruler class at Patchwork Passion and – this is a first for Pam – machine quilted it – following a class at the same shop. It is a very lovely result. And Laurel – very excited about the recent arrival of her looooong awaited grandson in Sydney, made this gorgeous quilt for him – can anyone guess his name??
Dianne was brimming with show and Tell! The first two pics are the front and back of a raffle prize from our Monday group. I picked this nice bag up in the CWA shop in Launceston and thought it perfect for a give away for our Monday group. Di was the lucky winner. Her next item was a beautiful quilt made with the “Buck eyed Beauty” block – a mystery quilt with Cheryl Billing-Smith. Her third item is for challenge in our Monday group – 12 x 12 blocks the first of which was themed “Faith” Dianne’s effort is inspiring and beautiful.
Ginny is working on a Rosalie Quinlan pattern she received at her work Christmas party – held last week. It is for a very pretty bag. And Fran has finished a UFO – a Gail Pan stitchery pattern where she was “forbidden” to use her favourite purple fabric. Very nice – despite the lack of purple – love the William Morris fabric too.
We excitedly received our kits for the Bedford Mystery Quilt, which we will be working on at our May meeting – can’t wait.
