Hello all in Scquilterland – welcome to our first Carrum Downs blog for the year. As you might imagine, there was lots of catching up to do after our Christmas break, and not a great deal of sewing was done.
Before I tell all about our festivities I should mention an exhibition being held – starting tomorrow:
Quilts of Valour Australia – Quilt Exhibition from 17th to 28th February 2014 at
St.Nicholas Anglican Church Gallery, 9 Bear Street, Mordialloc.
There will be a talk on Saturday, 22nd of February at 3pm (and please note that the Gallery hours are Mon, Tue, Wed. Thu 12pm – 3pm and Sat 10am to 1pm).
The exhibition will showcase quilts that have been donated to “Quilts of Valour Australia” for members of the Australian Defence Force, who have been been wounded whilst deployed on a war-like operation and the recognition will be extended to families of soldiers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
At our get together I attempted to photograph all attendees – I did miss out on Di and Jo – so you canjust imagine what they look like!
Ok – here we have Simone Jennifer and Kate. then Sally, Bat, Fran and Cynthia, followed by Marita, Jenny and Ramona, and, in the naughty corner Hermione and me.
Wendy, Marilyn and Wyn, then Maggy and Frances and Ginny. Jennifer, who also attended can be seen holding up her quilt for show and tell.
And here she is – all the way from Orange, via Rowville, Jennifer with her sparkly kaleidoscope quilt – front and beautiful hand dyed back.

More from me – Helen – a quilt for my great-nephew for his 1st birthday, some vintage buttons form the UK , the beginnings of a QAYG wedding quilt for my nephew and his lovely wife and a vintage ivory (we think) owl tape measure – extremely cute!
From Marilyn we have a unique example of stitching – from her surgeon, hidden by the bandage. Wendy was working on her KK gift from last year and finally Ginny has gone hexie mad – it is indeed contagious!
Next month Cynthia (the very proud new grandmother of young “Lord” Harrison) will be teaching those of us who are yet to be “hooked”, to crochet. If you want to join in, please bring along 8 ply wool and a 4mm crochet hook. I for one, am greatly looking forward to becoming a happy hooker.
