WEDNESDAY JULY 1ST 2O15

You may well ask why it has taken so long to produce the report on our wonderful Christmas in July meeting - on the other hand, you may not!  In keeping with my track record, I lost my little book with all the notes about the meeting. I will spare you the rest of the details - needless to say say, I looked in the fridge, the freezer, the washing machine, and even places quilt related. This morning, I found it - exactly where it should have been. Don't ask!
So, now we are in a position to make a full and frank report on our July meeting.

Being "Christmas in July, we made three different, very easy Christmas decorations. Great little items to hang on the tree, make into brooches, or just decorate the Christmas table.
Here are the sites for anyone who wants to have a go:

They were great fun to make - and by the end of the day there were many little hats, poinsettias, and little circle decorations around. If you are making a little hat, we found that about 30 pieces of wool were needed and mixing up the colours looked very good - apart from - well, let's just say there were Collingwood footy fans there!

We had a welcome visitor from snowbound Orange. Jennifer brought this lovely butterfly quilt, beautifully quilted in variegated  thread. So pretty.

Jennifer also made this clever oriental quilt, using a panel and simple blocks for the border, in order to teach a quilting class. It is part of her Oriental series - I think we are up to #6 now. Very noice!

Here am I (Helen) with a UFO I am still working on. Originally based on Maggie Walker's "Country Journal" BOM, I have changed the flowers to passion fruit (I was picking a LOT at the time) and plan to add passionfruit flowers as well. The chooks were  my first attempt at machine applique (some years ago - I bought the pattern at our 2000 Hobart retreat). Still a long way to go.

Dianne G has been working on the exquisite hexagons - in beautiful fabrics too.

Here is Sally, with her beautifully quilted Jacobean quilt. Sally has been working on this hand appliqued BOM from Patricia Campbell for a while now, so it is great to see how beautiful the finished article looks.

Some beautiful baby clothes knitted and being knitted by Deidre - the gum nut look is so cute. Deidre is knitting for babies in Africa.

Cynthia's beautiful behemoth - a great scrappy WIP. It is being made with 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" pieces of fabric. Love it already.

Also from Cynthia - her first 1600 jelly roll quilt, in great blokey colours for her son.  A great look.

Don't you love this little bag. I was lucky enough to receive a couple of these from my lovely Christmas swap sister, a couple of years ago. They look fabulous and are great to carry around for a particular project.

And it wouldn't be Christmas in July without pressies. The lucky recipients were Laurel and Dianne G.

Here is a gorgeous bag - I have no notes on it, but don't you love the fabric and the bells around it?

That's all from our July festivities. I was just back from the Canberra retreat  and, alas I missed the August frivolities, but I have been assured that much fun was had - as always.

Our next day of fun will be held on Wednesday 2nd of September 2015. As a special treat Sandra Maclay will be visiting with her pop up shop "Foothills Fabric and Threads" with some great purchasing opportunities.

Can't wait to join you all on the 2nd of September - everyone welcome

Until next month,
Your roving reporter,
Helen Evans
