It was great to be back after the Christmas break. The noise volume indicated that we all had a lot of catching up to do. Jeanette, as promised, brought along a "Helen" quiz for all of us to complete. Having won our Christmas Quiz two years running, she had threaded me with a quiz (we were both born in the same year - in the ..er..early fifties). I imagined it would be on things that happened that year - so I had read up on world leaders (Churchill. Menzies and Eisenhower), our state premier (John Cain Snr), the Petrov affair and the Royal visit! However the quiz was on various Helen's and, for some strange, inexplicable reason, cows. Anyway, I was allowed to win, and received a lovely prize. Thank you Jeanette - it was very funny, and we all got to see a 1954 (oops!!!) florin, specially minted for the Royal visit.
Dianne Mitchell brought along the St. John's Quilters raffles quilt - to be drawn at their exhibition - more about that later - and the marvelous quilt the have to raffle (tickets available at the March meeting). The quilt has a special meaning as it the top was made by the late Julie Wallace and kindly donated by her family.
As you can see, it has all Julie's beautiful fabrics in it and has been beautifully quilted - which you can see if you enlarge the photo. I hope I will have the winning ticket!
Maggy has been learning a new crochet stitch, and doesn't it look fantastic? It is to be a head band. Maggy is hoping to do more while she is recuperating. Maggy went into hospital the following week, for major back surgery. I am very pleased to say that the surgery was successful and that she is now in rehab at the Golf Links facility in Frankston - visitors welcome. Your determination is amazing and we hoe to see you back very soon.
Deidre has been making these sweet (just like Deidre xxx) little bags. They are very handy for going on a walk, with room for a drink bottle, as well as a zippered side pocket for keys, sunnies etc. Love the little flowers on the outside.
Here is Jeanette with her Quiltmaker 2014 Mystery quilt. an absolute masterpiece. We have seen this hand pieced over last past few years - so it is wonderful to experience the finished product.
Our terrible twins - from different mothers (and fathers), Louise and Robyn brought along their GBBs (Great big bags). Made from a pattern by Penny Sturgis - using Bronwyn Hayes' stitcheries (with permission), the spectacular bags would could hold all you need for anything from running away from home, to working on a huge project. Very noice girls.
Bar has been busy! She has made three scrap quilt tops for "Quilts of Valour Australia". All very interesting designs too. And did it make a significant change to her scrap basket? We all know the answer to that one! Well done Bar. Wyn (QOV President) was very pleased. as you might imagine.
This beautiful piece of work from (of course) Marilyn was a result of a class, where she learned Bev Lakes' technique. A glorious result - very well done.
And, again from the intrepid Marilyn, two lovely mini quilts from a class with Caroline Starky, using lumier paints. Beautiful!
Dianne G. has made this absolutely lovely jacket for a very special young one. Love the lavender colour too. Note to self - time to progress beyond dishcloths???
Oops - just turn around to look at this beautiful "Flour Mill" stitchery from Melody. It is designed by Rosalie Quinlan, who also came up with this beautiful method for "framing it", with a gorgeous Dresden plate design. Love work Melody and to Rosalie we send all our love and prayers.

A lovely table runner made by our Sandra, using 6 of the three million beautiful baskets she has made over the years. Very nice, and good luck using up the rest young Sandra.
An splendid effort from Ramona. Her first needle-turn applique quilt - made over 8 years - a "friendship Garden Blackbird" design - has been completed to Ramona's usual A+ standard. It has been beautifully quilted by Naomi Hinz (sp. ?) from Hampton. Three cheers for Marona!
At our March meeting we are very lucky to have quilter Wendy Snook, to talk about designing the Anzac triptych quilt which was on display at AQC in 2015. She will also show us some of her other work. It will be a very interesting session - Wendy is a great speaker. So, if a you could all be at the Community centre at 10am, it will help Wendy greatly.

Millrose Cottage is having a display of antique Red Cross signature quilts from the second world war from 18th - 20th of March. Millrose Cottage is in Ballan (on the way to Ballarat), and is a wonderful shop with a fantastic cafe with the BEST vanilla slices. Well worth a visit.
