Wednesday 17th July 2013

Our special pre-pre- retreat get together brought us visitors from all over the country. There was much chatter, laughter and general catching up with, perhaps, a tiny amount of stitching going on.

Lynell’s Bronwyn Hayes stitchery quilt – beautiful work.

Jan P.’s lovely little hexagons – and I do mean little! And Helen with a beautiful moo cow brought all the way from Sydney by Jan for her – this cow has gone straight to the cow room. Isn’t she udderly gorgeous?

Being pre- pre retreat Helen (me) brought along the very first retreat challenge I ever made. At the Hobart retreat back in 2000, we were asked to make a chatelaine with the Scquilters logo on it. I must have misheard and made a catelaine!  So, here, in all its glory is my cat for holding everything a stitcher may need, including hidden compartment for a small whiskey bottle and a yo yo for the cat’s..er… bum. I also brought along this ab fab bag, made by the generous Kaye Dungavell, just for me. Kaye and her daughter Marianne came to stay with me and very kindly brought along this bag FULL of FNQ goodies, including home made mango chutney. Thanks so much ladies!

Hermione’s brilliant “Pickled clam shells” . We cannot wait to see what the finished product will look like. Hermione has made her usual beautiful fabric choices too. What a gem! ( both Hermione and these blocks). Where did you get this pattern from my dear? Or is it one of yours?

Kay brought along this on-going apple core  quilt. A great use of scraps and a lovely project to take with you on your travels. Love the colour combinations of the scraps – great work Kaye!

And Kaye’s daughter Marianne has been working on this Piecemakers Quilt  - it looks fabulous. The second photo is of the finished pattern.

Bronwyn’s long term hand project – her blue and white star quilt, is taking shape beautifully.  And LOOK! Di has done some knitting. It looks quite beautiful Di – well done!

And here we have Horace the wombat – from both ends! Jan J.’s wonderful contribution to the toy challenge for Bendigo. He got stuffed at Carrum Downs, but showed no ill effects. He is from Homespun a few issues ago and isn’t he cute?

Wyn’s crocheting is coming along famously and Pam’s Michelle Hill designed applique work is really exquisite. Absolutely fabulous work!

Both of these look terrific – unfortunately I took no notes on these – but they are really great!!! Anyone ownin

Christine – in two poses. She is displaying a photo of her I pad holder. The result of a fabric challenge with Fran W. from Launceston at an earlier retreat. It looked really good and, sorry Christine, but I couldn’t resist using the second photo xxx.

And after that, it was off to Bendigo for a retreat which will be long remembered, but my lips are sealed because what happens at retreat stays at retreat – as we all know………..

Wednesday 3rd July 2013

It is catch up time after the wonderful Bendigo Retreat, so I am going back in time to the beginning of July, trying to read my notes.

This time of year a lot of us travel to warmer climes, but a lot of the usual suspects did attend to make it a fun and enjoyable day.

Cynthia has crocheted a baby quilt for her 42 year old daughter who is expecting her first baby. Lovely work and congratulations to Cynthia and her daughter in particular.

Frances saw a video in Lincraft of how to knit in this scarf, and immediately thought that she could do it herself. She was not wrong – and has done a beautiful job on this bright cheery scarf.

Ginny (and Fran as well) were both knitting retreat beanies/ berets. Good work!

And here is the beautiful raffle quilt from Cottontails – to be drawn at their quilt show (always wonderful) to aid their local CFA. The show will be held in the Community Centre in Belgrave, or is it Tecoma? on the 24th and 25th of August. Ramona has all the details: 0432 399 215    It is always a wonderful show and well worth a visit. It is not too late to buy tickets – once more, see Ramona or Sandra

Also there will be a quiltathon on Saturday 3rd August for the St.  Johns Quilters, Cranbourne to raise money to restore their heritage listed hall. You just bring sewing machine and sewing stuff and the fabric is provided. The cost for the day is $5 and you can ask for friends to sponsor you for more. The aim is to finish quilts to sell. There will also be traders and lucky door prizes. Di Mitchell can provide more details: 0409435769

That’s it for now,
