Wednesday 4th April 2012

In my usual timely manner – here is the report of our April get together!

I need to issue a reminder for our exciting meeting on Wednesday 2nd May. We will be working on our Bedford Mystery Quilts, with the help of Lessa Siegal, the designer of the quilt – it will be a visit from the Queen! So please don’t forget to bring your machines and plenty of thread. We also will  need a number of ironing boards, irons as well as quite a few  power boards, extension cords, and all the usual paraphernalia. If participants can manage to get the first stage of the quilt done before the day, you may even finish the quilt top on the day.

Another change on this day will be that instead of bringing your lunch, please bring a plate of food to share – preferably something that doesn’t need heating up.

And so to our April meeting – we had a great crowd and wonderful show and wonderful show and tell – which is hear for your viewing pleasure.

Here we have Hermione’s beautiful 1600 jelly roll quilt as well as a cardigan she is knitting. Ramona also made a 1600 quilt. Both lovely.

Julie made this rather striking foundation pieced quilt and is modelling her stylish black shawl – which she did hae trouble hanging onto for the rest of the day.

Shirley is working on this colourful Powerhouse museum scrap quilt – which I think I have the pattern for somewhere???? And Marilyn has made this terrific seascape skinny quilt – note the dear little shells on the sand. Marilyn also made this really sweet brooch with lots of embroidery and beading.

Louise was quick off the mark with the lovely thread holder pattern she purchased from Gail Pan at our March meeting. Well done.

Maggy made this pretty dolphin quilt for her great-grandson and Sue is working on a beautiful block from the Cherry Tweet pattern. Fran is showing us a little progress from her latest stitchery – we look forward to seeing it finished next month.

These magnificent blocks are the work of Jeanette – as brilliant as always.

The first two blocks are my challenge ones from our Monday group – the first one is themed “Faith” – a bit hard to see properly because it is mainly quilting, but it is supposed to be my guardian angel. The second theme was “Life”  - it is supposed to be life in a bottle. Then we have a hot cross bunny I made some years ago – he is still very cross however, and last but not least from me is a picture of my Great-grandfather which I transferred onto a box –a gain some years ago, but I gave it to my great-aunt – his daughter, who died recently and it was given back to me.

You may recall I posted a photo from way back in 1995 of a few of us a a quilt show at the Melbourne Show Grounds on my file on the Scquilters Yahoo page. The quilt we were standing in front of was this one – made in a swap by Jo – Jo has put it all together beautifully and has, as usual, added her own personal touches – to give it that extra special Jo feeling.

And last but not least are a few crowd scenes, as well as some lovely bags knitted by Inge, one of the girls from my Monday group. She uses wool, string, fabric and all sorts of bits and pieces to make these one of a kind, interesting bags.

And that’s all from your roving reporter for April – looking forward to our very special, hopefully productive, May meeting,

Helen Evans
