This was our “Biggest morning tea” get together, and a fabulous morning tea it was. There was a raffle and also all the proceeds from the trade table were also donated. A total of $300 was raised on the day – in conjunction with Vic. Quilters, this year, the funds were donated to Ovarian Cancer. Big congratulations to Sally on winning the raffle too.

Marilyn with her “First sock” – well done!  Also from Marilyn, her quilt made as a challenge from Mornington Peninsula Quilters – original shapes were given to her (cut with go cutter), and two fabrics as part of the challenge , and Marilyn then cut some more with her new computerised ab fab, all dancing cutter. The result is a lovely quilt for children of all ages!

 

 

And here we have Wyn, modelling her latest knitted creation – isn’t she lovely? And she has also made a beanie for her great grand daughter – good work!

 

Here Frab=n shows off her Launceston retreat (next week!!!) friendship swap gift from Marilyn – a beautifully decorated Ipod case and very pretty coat hanger. Fran made this cheerful quilt for a friend’s daughter – very pretty.

Here we have lucky Maggy, with a beautiful bag she won at The Cranbourne St. John’s quilt show. The bag was made by another of our members – the clever Frances. And here is a quilt made by me (Helen)  for my great niece, Jude the beauteous! The Angel blocks came from a Scquilters block swap – several years ago.

 

 

Here is an absolutely lovely quilt made by Jo and 9 friends, using the Carpenter’s Wheel block, Jo has put it all together and it is being donated to Quilts of Valour. Very well done Jo.

V.I.P. Message for May meeting

For our next meeting on Wednesday 7th May we will be holding our extravaganza Biggest Morning Tea – oops no – even bigger than that – our Biggest LUNCH. We are asking all of you to bring a small plate of delicious food to share for our lunch to aid Cancer Research. We will be joining with Vic Quilters this year in supporting Ovarian Cancer.

Now, we want you to be cashed up as there will be a lovely raffle and the all proceeds of the sale of all items on the trading table will be donated as well. So, please go through your stashes/books/ mags. etc. for anything that you may not need, but that someone else is sure to want to buy – all for a great cause.

Be there or be square!!!

Now to what did or did not happen on Wednesday in Carrum Downs last week.

 

   

Maggie’s almost completed Owl cute stitchery and Sally’s Jacobean applique quilt top – beautifully done in spectacular colours.

 

   

Marilyn has made a Quilt of Valour in the striking shades of yellow and blue. It is a split 4 patch . Marilyn used 5inch squares – so keep it in mind for charm packs! Yellow and blue is always a beautiful combination!

   

This a a pattern that Bronwyn has designed to be used with a jelly roll – she has very kindly made it available to anyone making charity quilts – very clever. And here is a big cushion to sit on for yet another (#9 in fact) of Wyn’s great grandchildren. If you can guess his name, please e-mail me privately and I will send you a little prize!

   

Here Simone shows us her fabulous Dogs with personality quilt – from an old American magazine or book. They are so cute with their sunglasses – I urge you to click on this one, in particular, to see it up close (but click on all the pics anyway!). Simone quilted this herself too. For the first time in many many years I (Helen) am hand piecing a quilt. This is a medallion quilt by the lovely Judy Newman, and as you can see , I am using retro fabrics.

 

   

Here is lovely Robyn in a terrific scarf she has made, in time for the cooler months, and also with a great little quilt – a pattern from Jennifer Knowles.

 

  

Jo showed us thus Gift quilt for Waverley Patchworkers – lovely in yellow and black – another fabulous colour combination.  Jo also showed us her completed Bedford mystery quilt – however we are not allowed to show you that one yet, as Jo, as usual, is ahead of the pack.

 

And here are a few of the gels hard at work for a change.

 

So, please don’t forget our BIG day next month – we also have some interesting speakers/g us over the visiting us in the near future as well as a our BIG O birthday celebration in August for the many of us having Big O birthdays this year.

 

The Waverley Patchworkers Inc are having their fabulous, wonderful Quilt Show at the Mt. Waverley Community Centre Sat. 31st May – Sun. 1st. June Entry $8 with all profits to the Waverley Benevolent Society. There will be a fabulous quilt display, food, quilt shops and patchwork/Quilting and product demonstrations. www.waverleypatchworkers.com.au

The Sunbury Stitchers and Quilters – those clever gals, are having a quilt show themed  “Old Days New Ways” on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June. Admission $7 seniors $5 at the Memorial Hall, Stawell St. Sunbury. With some wonderful traders, refreshments and a quilt raffle. Ph: 5428 3502

It sounds like June will be a busy month for us all – after Launceston!

Finally I am back in the blogisphere – I have to watch out I don’t get sacked for dereliction of blog duty, however for now, I bring you our March blog, in all its glory.

Just be patient while I find the photos now – I don’t think the Washington monument was in any of the quilts…looking…looking…..

     

Ok here we have a 1600 quilt that I made a while ago, but it now has borders and just needs quilting and binding. It is for Daughter Elizabeth. Then we have the remarkable sight of Lynda learning to knit!!! Progress was made, thanks to the excellent tutelage of Wynn, and as you can see, it is looking very good so far.

 

  

This piece, which Marilyn did in a Craftsy course with Caroline Wharfe, using both machine and hand titching and beading – it is now mounted on canvas and is just beautiful. And Simone has made a special tote for her daughter’s birthday to hold her rainbow loom and all its bits and pieces. Any parent of a young child will know what a rainbow loom is ( alas I don’t!). The tote is very cleverly made – congrats to Simone.

 

     

Here Robyn is, with her mother’s help. al ready for Christmas 2014, with this beautiful Christmas stitchery wall hanging. And lovely Louse has made this great couch companion for stitchers, together with the matching cute little scrap bin. The fabrics are just wonderful.

 

  

Deidre – back with us after her wonderful nursing period in Africa – is making this sweet sock bag for her friend who has a sock problem with her family. And Kate’s final knitted doll is almost finished for another lucky young relative. The photo does not do justice to the intricate knitting that Kate has done – love the hat too.

 

  

This magnificent piece of work shows that “we are not worthy”. Kate, again stunned us with this quilt, complete with machine embroidery in each square.

 

     

First we have Marilyn, working on a tapestry she bought (complete kit) at the op shop. It is going to be wonderful. And Fran has made this black and white quilt – as requested by her grand daughter for her 13th birthday (grand daughter’s not Fran’s). It was quilted beautifully by Kylie Cannon of Finely Quilted Beaumaris.

 

      

Here Bar is showing us a very pretty stable bag she has made for her sister in law. Very nice. And here is a quilt Sally made for a girl friend’s daughter ten years ago. It has been much loved and much washed , so Sally is replacing the binding. It has gently faded into a lovely vintage style.

 

  

Here are the last two FQ packs that were left when my niece visited the Victoria and Albert museum and found them at half price. She very kindly bought them and posted them to me. Such beautiful fabrics and all reproductions of old fabrics produced exclusively by the V&A.

 

 

This is a fabulous quilt made by Jeanette – with broiderie perse in the centre and then using repro scraps in a beautiful pattern around the centre. Gorgeous.

 

Now this is from Jeanette’s Ipad. You can see that a lady is working on a quilt. Many of you may be familiar with the SIMS family game – in the SIMS Free Play ..er…module, Jeanette persuaded her son’s partner to add Quilting to hobbies for seniors. After twitching (bird watching), it is the most popular hobby now on this popular world wide game. The “senior” quilter, in her special quilt studio, goes through the whole process of making a quilt as part of the game, and you can even have a patchwork teddy bear in your Sims house.

And, last but by no means least, below you will see the raffle quilt for the St. John’s Quilters in Cranbourne. Di organised for some of them to make a basket block and it has been beautifully put together, and then quilted by Sue Foster from Lang Lang.

Tickets will be on sale at their Quilt show, celebrating 150 of St.John’s Anglican church in Cranbourne – details below the photos.

     

The St.John’s Quilt Show and Art Exhibition will be held on Saturday 5th April 9.30 – 4.30 and Sunday 6th April 12.30 – 4.30 at the Bishop John Wilson Education Centre 27 Childers St, Cranbourne. Admission $5. Proceeds to the Blairlogie Living and Learning Centre. There will be refreshments, trading table and artwork by local artists for sale.

And on that note – I’m all blogged out for March.
